Alphabet Stock Climbs: What’s Going On?

Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) shares are rising Wednesday. Google announced a program that opens its advanced AI models to scientists across Europe. Here’s what you should know.

Google DeepMind, Google Cloud Open Frontier AI Models to Researchers

Google DeepMind and Google Cloud are launching a program for European scientists, Reuters reported. Up to 200 researchers will receive hands-on access to the companies’ frontier models. Google said Wednesday that the package also includes $3 million of compute credits.

The toolkit covers AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve and AlphaEarth Foundations.

The companies said scientists can use these tools to move faster on tough problems. They pointed to extreme weather forecasts and the way molecules are structured as two uses.

Citizens Keeps Market Outperform On Alphabet With $515 Price Target

Additionally, to Google’s new program, Citizens analyst Andrew Boone weighed in on Alphabet the same day. Boone stood by a Market Outperform rating and left the price target at $515.

Boone’s note pointed to a drop in YouTube engagement. Viewing time worldwide fell roughly 1.4% against a year ago, marking a second month of declines. Meanwhile, the platform’s audience kept growing. Monthly users rose 2.4% and daily users 1.3% globally.

YouTube holds the top spot for time spent, with about 33% of U.S. time and 28% of global time. It still slipped against rivals. Instagram and TikTok took roughly 175 basis points of global share from YouTube over the year. YouTube did gain about 90 basis points in the U.S.

In the U.S., time spent rose 4.2% year over year. The prior month’s growth was 6.5%, so the rate slowed by about 2 points. Boone flagged a gap in the data. Over half of U.S. YouTube viewing now occurs on TVs, and this measure does not count it.

Google Play Adds Personal App Building and New Game Discovery Tools

Google Play also drew attention a day earlier with a new way to create apps. Anyone with a Google account can now use Google AI Studio to build a personal Android app and run it on their own device through Play, without registering as a developer. Google began the rollout Tuesday in select markets, including the U.S. Users must be at least 18.

Play also launched Game Finder, which matches players with titles based on a Gamer DNA profile, and Ask Play comparisons that line up apps against each other.
